Suspect allegedly dies in Ashaiman police cell

Ashaiman, March 5, GNA — The Tema Regional Police Command is investigating circumstances that led to the death of a suspected criminal in the Ashaiman police cell on Wednesday.

Unconfirmed information reaching Ghana News Agency in Tema on Thursday said in addition to the suspect, two others also died on admission at the Tema General Hospital.

The names, ages and crimes of the inmates were not disclosed. It is believed the deceased were assaulted by other suspects in the cell.

When contacted Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) John Kudalor, Tema Regional Police Commander confirmed the death of the suspect in the cell but denied knowledge of the others. DCOP Kudalor could not give details of the incident as the information was yet to be forwarded to him.
