Man arrested for attempt to buy ammunition from police officer

Tamale, Feb. 25, GNA – The Yendi police on Monday arrested one Abukari Iddrisu, who attempted to buy more than 500 pieces of AK 47 ammunition from a police officer. Mr Ofosu Mensah Gyeabour, Northern Regional Police Commander who disclosed this to the GNA in an interview said Iddrisu approached the police officer and pleaded with him to assist him to buy some 200 pieces of AK 47 ammunition. He said the police officer in turn reported the case to the District Police Commander, who told him to feign interest in the transaction. When the suspect met the police officer again, he deposited GHc 40 after getting the assurance that the items would be provided. Mr Gyeabour said the suspect further demanded for another 300 pieces of the ammunition and therefore deposited another GHC 20 and promised to pay the balance when he returned to collect the ammunition. He was however arrested by the police when he turned up to collect the ammunition and is now in prison custody.
