Parliament gives nominees approval

Accra, Feb. 25, GNA -Parliament on Wednesday gave approval to Mr Albert Abongo as the Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, Mr Kwesi Ahwoi, Minister of Food and Agriculture, Mr Azong Alhassan as Minister of State at the Presidency and Mr Mark Woyongo as Upper East Regional Minister.

The House also continued with the debate on the State of the Nation address with Mr Ambrose Dery, Deputy Minority Leader, calling on President John Evans Atta Mills to allow all the governance institutions mentioned in the Chinery Hesse report to enjoy their conditions of service and facilities as spelt out in the report.

The member made reference to portions of the President’s address to Parliament stating that government would take seriously into account the needs of these governance institutions. Mr Dery said any business to revise the Chinery Hesse report would be unconstitutional.

Mr. Sampson Ahi, NDC MP for Juaboso, in his contributions, touched on the weak foundations upon which the NDC government had to build the economy, saying Ghana’s economy was sick because of the huge expenditure of the previous government.

He said President Mills’ proposals to reduce State Protocol and official foreign travel budgets drastically, among other austerity measures, would go a long way in reviving the economy.
