Storm rips off school roofing

Sunyani, Feb. 20, GNA – A severe downpour on Wednesday ripped off part of the roofing of the Roman Catholic primary school at Nsoatre, near Sunyani.

Mr Kwame Adu, a teacher, told the Ghana News Agency that the roofs of three classrooms were ripped off and forcing the pupils to study under trees.

He said school authorities had written to the local National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) office, appealing for assistance.

Mr Adu said there was no casualty because the storm happened outside school hours.

Mr Adu disclosed that apart from the classrooms, other buildings in the area were destroyed, rendering many residents homeless, adding that the displaced were putting up with relatives. However, Mr. Kwasi Anane Frimpong, regional NADMO director, said his office had not yet received any report from the school or households hit by the storm. Mr Frimpong said a NADMO team would visit the affected families to ascertain the damage.
