Asantehene urges chiefs to be honest and transparent

Otumfuo Osei Tutu 11, Asantehene, has urged chiefs to exhibit a high sense of honesty, humility and transparency and offer positive leadership qualities to win the confidence and respect of their people.

The Asantehene gave the advice in an address read by Oheneba Adusei Poku, Akyempimhene, at the Golden Jubilee celebration of the enstoolment of Odeefuo Owusu Amoaye 11, Appiaduhene, at Appiadu, near Kumasi, last Saturday.

He commended the Appiaduhene for his exemplary leadership qualities which had brought about tremendous socio-economic development in the area.

He however cautioned the chief against complacency and advised him to strive to continue to unite the people to ensure peace, stability and rapid development to improve the living standard of the people.

Odeefuo Amoaye has personally reconstructed and tarred the seven-kilometre feeder road from Appiadu to Mena at a cost of 115 million cedis.

He has also spent over 35 million cedis to provide potable water for the people and constructed a vocational institute, primary and junior secondary schools to improve education in the area.

Odeefuo Amoaye said the community is spending over 300 million cedis to construct a modern community centre which consists of an auditorium, library, offices, dining hall, kitchen and toilet facilities.

Nana Owusu Panin Adusei 11, Abrankese-Nyameanihene, advised parents to be more concerned with the education of their wards.

Odeefuo Amoaye later presented a gold embroidered porcupine stool, schnapps, whisky and two a sheep to the Asantehene.

Odeefuo Amoaye was enstooled the 14th occupant of the Appiadu Odeefuo Amoaye stool on March 3, 1932, after the death of his uncle, Nana Yaw Barimah at the tender age of 19.

He has travelled extensively to Europe, America and other foreign countries.
