Rainstorm destroys Classroom block at Nkoranza

Nkoranza (B/A), Feb. 9, GNA – A rainstorm has ripped off the roof of a three-classroom block of the Methodist Primary School at Manso in the Nkoranza North District of Brong-Ahafo, displacing 120 pupils. Mr Jackson Munufie, Head teacher of the school disclosed this to officials of Nkoranza District Secretariat of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO). He said the cost of the disaster was estimated at about GH¢2,500.00 adding; “there is no way the community can mobilize funds to rehabilitate the building within the shortest possible time”. Mr Munufie said it had become difficult to get a place to accommodate the pupils and that he had officially informed the District Directorate of Education about the disaster for the necessary assistance.

Mr John Kwasi Kwao, Nkoranza District Deputy NADMO Coordinator in-charge of Finance and Administration, said the organization would submit a report on the disaster to the headquarters in Accra for the necessary attention.

He expressed concern about rainstorm disasters in the communities and advised the people to plant trees at the outskirts of their communities and in schools to serve as wind breaks. Mr Kwao appealed to the Member of Parliament for Nkoranza North, Major Derek Oduro (Rtd) to consider the plight of the pupils and support them.
