Winneba (C/R), Feb. 2, GNA – A 27 year-old mason from Ansaful, near Winneba, has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢2,000 with two sureties by the Effutu Magistrate’s court for causing harm to his brother over food. Kwame Prempeh pleaded guilty and the court, presided over by Mr Bennete Attabra, ordered him to reappear on February 16, 2009. Prosecuting, Police Inspector Jacob Dziavor, said the complainant, Justice Andam, and the accused are brothers who lived together at Ansaful near Winneba.

Inspector Dziavor said on January 11, this year at about 2200 hours, the two together, went to buy food to take home. He said moments later, the accused blamed the complainant for eating his food and this led to a brawl between the two. The court heard that in the course of the brawl, Prempeh pulled a knife from his pocket and stabbed Andam twice in his stomach, making his intestines gush out.

Inspector Dziavor said the complainant’s shouts for help attracted sympathizers who rushed him to the Winneba Municipal hospital from where he was later referred to the Korle-Bu teaching hospital. The court heard that the father of the two, Mr Kwesi Andam, lodged a complaint with the Winneba Police station and the accused was arrested.
