Pregnant woman burnt to death

Bawku, Jan. 26, GNA – Fatima Issaka, a 28-year-old pregnant woman, was burnt to death at Daduri, a suburb of Bawku on the night of January 16 2009. The room of Mohammed Majeed, her husband, in which she was when the tragedy occurred, was allegedly set ablaze by unidentified persons at about 2300 hours on the fateful day.

Bawku Municipal Police Commander, Mr. Gordon Blewushie Cashman, confirmed the story to GNA, but declined to comment on the calamity since the police were investigating the matter. Majeed told the GNA that he arrived home to notice that her wife was trapped in the room that was engulfed by fire adding that by the time personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service arrived at the scene Fatima had been burnt to death.

A resident of Daduri, who wanted to remain anonymous, told GNA that six other houses in different parts of Bawku had been set ablaze that night. This is because perpetrators of last Friday’s arson, as well as those involved in other criminal activities in the area, allegedly used unlicensed motorcycles. 26 Jan. 09
