Association of Garages congratulates Mills

Accra, Jan. 23, GNA – The Ghana National Association of Garages (GNAG) on Friday congratulated President John Evans Atta Mills and Vice President John Dramani Mahama for their electoral victory in last year’s elections.

A statement signed by the National Secretary, Mr. J. K. Nimo on Friday urged the government to revisit some of the projects it initiated for the Association during the PNDC/NDC eras.

These include acquisition of land in the various regions for the establishment of Light Industrial Estates and provision of a World Bank loan that made it possible for a number of master craftsmen and apprentices of the Association to upgrade both their technical and managerial skills at the various technical institutions. The Association also noted that its members were mobilized in the early days of the PNDC to cannibalize all faulty government vehicles which helped in the smooth running of the then government’s machinery. The statement therefore appealed to President Atta Mills and the NDC government to collaborate with them and continue from where they left off.

The statement said with new trends of changing technologies in the automobile services industry, both master craftsmen and apprentices needed more support from the government in their training programmes. The statement appealed to the government to direct all Regional Administrations, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to establish vehicle repair centres for use by the Association just as they plan for markets and lorry stations within their jurisdictions.
