Tema The services of the PSC Tema shipyard limited, a drydocking company, has been fully booked by shipping companies for repairs and drydocking from now till July this year. Mr Raihman Omar, managing director of the company, disclosed this to Nii Armah Ashietey, Tema municipal chief executive, during a visit to the shipyard today. He said nine ships from Europe and neighbouring countries have lined up “for our services.” The visit also took Nii Ashietey to Irani brothers, a flour milling company, Ghana Emulsion Company which produces bitumen and Supermaritime, a clearing agency, among other places. Mr Omar explained that since they started their operations, they have been sub-contracting some of their jobs to small local companies to create more job opportunities. Mr Omar said they have decided to put part of their resources into the training of their workers adding that about 30 of them would be sent out to Malaysia before the end of the year. “The company has 343 workers, with 30 casual labourers and we hope to employ 500 more by the end of the year”, Mr Omar added. Nii Ashietey said the future of the company is directly linked to the fortunes of individuals and pointed out that whatever wealth the company creates will be enjoyed by the people through the provision of basic amenities.
