Takoradi, Jan. 9, GNA – A Takoradi District Magistrate’s Court on Friday fined John Kumeh, an unemployed 100 Ghana cedis for stealing a Nokia Mobile Phone valued at 50 Ghana Cedis. The accused who pleaded guilty would serve six months imprisonment in hard labour in default. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Nana Gyebi, said at about 10.15 am on December 30, last year, the accused visited manager of ABTS Company at Takoradi.
He said while leaving the company premises, the accused found Christina Nadzekpo, the complainant, who is the manager’s secretary asleep with her handbag on a chair in her office.
Police Chief Inspector Gyebi said the accused stole the handbag and took the mobile phone and 80 Ghana cedis cash threw the bag away. The prosecution said when the complainant woke up and detected the theft, she reported the matter to the Harbour Police and during investigations the accused was arrested at New Takoradi where he admitted the offence and handed over the phone to the police. He said the accused admitted destroying the chip but denied any knowledge of the money and after investigations charged with the offence.
