Upper East branch of NDC commends electorates

Bolgatanga, Jan. 7, GNA – The Upper East Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Wednesday commended the chiefs and people in the region and Ghanaians in general for voting overwhelmingly for Professor John Evans Atta Mills, the party’s Presidential candidate. This was contained in a statement signed by the party’s Regional Vice Chairman, Mr Richard Adua, and released to the Press in Bolgatanga. “Having voted massively for the NDC in the first round to enable the party to maintain its electoral dominance in the region, the electorates in the region again showed their affection and commitment by turning out in their numbers to deliver 223,506 votes for the NDC as against 117,470 votes for the NPP,” it said.

The statement commended the party’s enthusiastic supporters, polling agents, observers, constituency executive and foot soldiers in the 13 constituencies in the region for working tirelessly for the party to capture power.

It also commended the civil society organizations, the Electoral Commission (EC) and the media for their watchdog role and public education on the electioneering processes.

The release congratulated other political parties that stood solidly behind the party during the run-off election which led to the party’s victory.

The statement indicated that the President-elect was somebody who would live by his promise of being President to all Ghanaians without discrimination.

“There will be no discrimination against any Ghanaian on the basis of one’s political, ethnic, and geographical background,” it said. It said the NDC government’s commitment to build a better Ghana with improved economic conditions would be the cardinal principle of the party.

The statement assured Ghanaians that the NDC government would run a transparent and accountable government.

It indicated that it would also build a strong economy for real job creation, invest in the people and expand the nation’s infrastructural development for growth.
