Election Progress 11 Accra

At the Para Safari Band line polling station in the Dadekotopon more than 400 people had turned up to vote as at 1135 hours. Mr. Godfred Boakye, Presiding Officer, said if the polling station should record a voter turn out that equalled or surpassed that of December 7, there should be a rush by voters towards the end of the exercise.

At the Kotoka International Airport Police Barracks Polling Station, about 300 voters had cast their ballots as compared to 400 at the same time during the last election. Mr Charles Lartey, Presiding Officer, said he believed that one reason for the situation was the holding of church services on the Saturday that preceded the last election which enabled many church going voters to be free to vote on Election Day. He said he also believed that apart from the fact some people may have been engaged in some Christmas activities, others may also have decided to take it easy and vote later on in the day. The polling stations visited by the GNA were peaceful. The electoral officials as well as the Presiding Officers said they had encountered no difficulties so far.
