Upper West Police command deploys men to districts

Wa, Dec 24, GNA – The Upper West Police command on Wednesday deployed police officers to all the districts of the region to avoid any nasty incident during the yuletide and the presidential run-off on December 28.

Apart from the check-ups in the districts, other police would also be sent on patrols to the main highways to avoid robberies that had characterized the region during such important activities. DCOP Kwasi Appiah Boateng, Upper West Regional Police Commander who disclosed these in an interview with the GHANA NEWS AGENCY (GNA) at Wa said such deployments were necessitated by the tension-laden electoral activities throughout the country.

“The Upper West Region is part of Ghana and we shall not relax in our bid to ensure an incident free Christmas and a successful presidential run-off”.

DCOP Boateng warned the leaderships and supporters of both the NPP and NDC to exercise restraint in activities leading to the December 28 polls in order not to incur the displeasure of the public, adding “the Regional Police Command would not spare anybody or groups of persons who would try to foment trouble in the region”. The Regional Commander also reminded traders and the public that the ban on fire crackers and other explosives was still in force and anybody caught selling, buying or using such explosives would be made to face the full rigours of the law. “Our activities are not meant to intimidate the public, but to enforce the laws for the peaceful movement of everybody,” he said. 24 Dec. 08
