NDC Delegation assures Akwatia supporters

Akwatia, Dec. 20, GNA – A high powered delegation of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has paid a day’s visit to Akwatia to assess the political situation and to reassure members that the party was on the verge of winning the Presidential run-off on December 28. The delegation, which was led by the party’s General Secretary, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, included Nana Ato Dadzie, Chief of Staff during the NDC administration, took the opportunity to learn at first hand about the violence that erupted at Akwatia on December 7 and the subsequent arrest of some supporters on suspicion of their involvement in those disturbances.

The delegation met the families of the arrested members and assured them that everything would be done to ensure their freedom. Addressing party members later, Mr Nketia said the NDC was not happy about the arrest of only its members who were not guilty of the offences preferred against them and appealed to all to exercise restraint.

He said nothing could prevent the party from winning the presidential election round two no matter what obstacle that might be put in its way.

Nana Ato Dadzie called for justice and fair play and questioned why only NDC members were put on the list of men wanted in connection with the December 7 incident, describing the list as one sided. He said there was no justification for the police action, especially given the fact that the ballot box was found at the residence of a Constituency Executive member of the NPP at Akwatia. Mr Baba Jamal, Akwatia constituency parliamentary candidate of the NDC said the party would recapture power and make Ghana a better place to live in. 20 Dec. 08
