Soldiers Withdraw From Ghana Broadcasting Corporation

Soldiers Friday ended years of guard duties at the State-owned Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), which was one of the most heavily defended offices in the country.

GBC said the soldiers started packing their items Friday morning and were expected to complete the exercise by the end of day.

The action is in line with the policy of the new government sworn in Sunday that policemen should guard the Broadcasting House.

Broadcasting House is usually one of the first areas to be captured in the event of a military coup.

Although many FM radio stations and one private TV station have strung up in the country, the GBC still enjoys heavy protection.
