Palm-wine tapper survived matchet wounds to arrest a thief

Ho, Dec. 16, GNA – A 47 year old palm-wine tapper in Ho, Sunday survived several matchet blows to his head, shoulders, neck and stomach in an attempt to arrest one Selasi Wutumi who was breaking into a house at Wortoe near Ho Polytechnic. Mr Samuel Kofi Tetteh, Ho Municipal Police Commander told the Ghana News Agency that, Wutumi turned on Mr Robert Avoryi who was hard on his (Wutumi’s) heels, slashing him several times before other pursuers including students of the Ho polytechnic overpowered and arrested him. Mr Tetteh said Wutumi was breaking into the house of Mr Elvis Agama, a businessman and his wife Madam Patience Bani, who had left for church that morning.

He said Madam Bani, however returned from church earlier than usual and saw Wutumi breaking into the house and raised alarm drawing the attention of neighbours who gave him a hot chase. Mr Tetteh said one of Wutumi’s accomplices was also arrested, while another is on the run. He said Wutumi could be linked to similar crimes in the area recently. 16 Dec. 08
