Gov’t insures prison officers and inmates

Nsawam, Dec. 12, GNA – Government has insured prison officers and their dependants as well as inmates of the Nsawam Security Prisons free of charge under the District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme. Mr Chris Pobi, the Scheme Manager of the Akuapem South Mutual Health Insurance Scheme, who told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Friday, said the insurance cards had been presented to 2,530 male and 111 female inmates, while 653 were given to prison officers and their dependants. Mr Pobi said government intended to ensure speedy health delivery to all persons in the prisons to prevent premature deaths. He said the presentation of the cards formed part of activities to mark the health insurance week in the Akuapem South Municipality. Mr William Ofori-Anoff, Assistant Director, Second in Command of Nsawam Prisons, receiving the cards commended the government for the initiative and said the health and the welfare of prison officers including inmates were important. He said the cards would be given to the beneficiaries to enable access health care when necessary.
