EC urges public to ignore purported announcement of results

Accra, Dec. 9, GNA – The Electoral Commission on Tuesday urged the public to ignore any person or group of persons that purports to announce the final results of the 2008 elections. In a statement issued by the Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr Kwadwo Afai-Gyan, he said the Commission was the only body in the country authorised by law to conduct public elections and declare their results.

“The Commission will announce the time and place for the declaration of the 2008 results when it is ready to do so,” he said. The two main political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) have been issuing statements indicating that they are confident of winning the elections.
