Display HIV/AIDS posters in public places

Ofoase (E/R), Dec. 1, GNA – Operators of public entertainment centres, chop and drinking bars have been advised to display HIV/AIDS posters and other educational materials at their premises to help curb the spread of the deadly disease. Mr Justice Ohene, Managing Principal of the Justice International and Orphanage School at Ofoase in the newly created Akyemansa District of the Eastern Region, gave the advice at a public forum here on Saturday. He was speaking at a two-day HIV/AIDS awareness training workshop for selected youth and vulnerable group at Ofoase. Mr Ohene indicated that it was some of these centres that the issue of sexual activities were planned before they took place. The workshop was also used to sensitize the youth and vulnerable groups about the need to have compassion and also support people living with HIV/AIDS in their communities.

The Manager stressed that HIV/AIDS was real and had strong consequences for victims and therefore, urged the youth not to engage in illicit and unprotected sex. He called on other orphanage institutions in the country to help inculcate in the youth, the need for abstinence in addition to the promotion of the use of condom among adults. Mr Ohene urged couples to stick to their sexual partners and also remain faithful to them, so as to make an impact on the fight against the disease. He called on the youth to educate their parents about the disease, as it was causing havoc on the adult population. 1 Dec. 08
