New Catholic Education Policy to be inaugurated next year

Kumasi, Nov. 27, GNA – A new Catholic Education Policy to revamp the existing system and involve parish communities in education delivery will be inaugurated next year.

Sir Dave Anane Druyeh, General Manager of the Catholic Schools in Ghana said in Kumasi at the weekend that as a first step, education committees would be set up at the parish diocesan and national levels to promote effective community participation in Catholic education. Sir Druyeh, who was addressing an impressive ceremony to inaugurate the Kumasi Provincial Association of Catholic Teachers (ACT), called on lecturers, teachers and all stakeholders in education to get actively involved when the policy was implemented to ensure its success. He advised Catholic teachers to be willing to share their faith with the students because “A life with God at the centre is the best a teacher would give to his students, this by no means would be considered as indoctrination.”

His Grace Arch Bishop Thomas Kwaku Mensah commended the interim officers of the Association for taking the initiative to bring all the teachers in the Catholic Province under one umbrella to help the church to provide holistic education to Ghanaians. He entreated Catholic teachers to be proud of their faith and religion and endeavour to pass it on to their students through proper instructions so that Catholic morality would form part of the socialization process of the child. Arch Bishop Mensah asked them to take the teaching of Religious and Moral Education (RME) seriously in their schools. Mr Paul Osei-Assibey, Interim President the ACT in Kumasi said the group which started with ten members since 2006 now had over 200 members from Ejisu, Amakom, Pankrono, Mampong, New Edubiase, Bechem, Seikwa and Fankyenebra. He said the interim executives were working hard to reach all parishes in the province to help promote Catholic education. n
