PNC would promote rule of law – TERIFF

Accra, Nov. 26, GNA – The tertiary students’ wing of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Tertiary Institutions Functionaries (TERIFF), on Tuesday said the party’s administration would give top priority to strengthening the rule of law in order to win the confidence of citizens, entrepreneurs and foreign investors if elected into office on December 7.

A statement signed by Mr James Adongo, TERIFF President, said this would help in ameliorating the present chaotic state of affairs in Ghana, where human rights had constantly been violated with impunity. “A PNC government shall as a matter of top priority institute appropriate measures that would guarantee the security of tenure of office for all those appointed to the bench.” The statement said obsolete laws in the judicial system would not be part of the country’s legal statutes.

It said the government would separate the Minister of Justice from that of the Office of Attorney-General (AG) while the offices of the AG and Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) would both be provided with enough human and material resources as well the power to prosecute all criminal offences.

“It is the belief of PNC that with this comprehensive legal policy, Ghanaians would decisively and wisely exercise their franchise for Dr Edward Mahama in the December Polls,” it said.
