Rotary Club supports Vocational Institute

Pramso (Ash), Nov. 22, GNA – The Kumasi East Rotary Club in collaboration with Cornwell Sunrise-Canada, a Civil Society Group have donated educational materials worth 2,000 dollars to the Saint Michael’s Vocational Institute in the Bosomtwe District of Ashanti. The materials included sewing machines, head and hand driers, deep freezer and a gas cooker. Mr. Charles Robert Amoako, President of the Club, who made the presentation at Pramso, said that the gesture was in response to an appeal made by the Institute for assistance. He said it formed part of the club’s four year plan, dubbed 3H Project, to ensure good health, eliminate hunger as well as improve the standard of living of people in deprived areas. Mr Amoako said the project which started in 2006 benefited residents of Domeabra, Krakosua, Poano-Ntenanko, Petriensa, Pramso and others communities He said the people had good sanitation, potable water, educational materials and improvement of their health facilities.

Mr. Solomon Kyeremateng, Community Service Director of the Club, said 950,000 US Dollars were being spent to complement government’s efforts. He urged the beneficiaries to the donation to use the materials judiciously and promised that the club’s would continue to support the Institute.

Mr. Kyeremateng said that an additional 20 sewing machines would be given to the Institute w to enhance teaching and learning. Mrs. Juliana Owusu-Antwi, Principal of the School, commended the donors for their gesture. She said the Institute, which offers catering, fashion, hair dressing, funeral and wedding decorations, embroidery and batik, tie and die making started with six students in 1993 but could now boast of 85 students. The principal appealed to individuals and organisations to support the Institute build hostels since most of the students were living in temporary hostel.
