Winneba, Nov. 17 GNA – The International Beekeeping Research Association (IBRA) African Research, in collaboration with the Tropical Agricultural Marketing and Consultancy Service (TRAGRIMACS), Sunflower Ghana, an NGO is organizing a two-day workshop on beekeeping to teach Ghanaians modern beekeeping techniques in Accra.
About 120 participants made up of Ghanaians bee-keepers, business houses, non-governmental organisations from Ghana, South Africa, Togo and Uganda are expected to attend the workshop.
The workshop, which would start from November 20 and end on November 21, is aimed at introducing participants to recent research work and modern bee-keeping techniques and equipment, Mr. Issah Sulemana, Chief Executive Officer of TRAGRIMACS, told the GNA in an interview in Winneba on Sunday. He said the workshop, the first to be held in Africa, is also to highlight the business aspect and potentials in bee-keeping as a lucrative business.
Mr. Sulemana said Dr. Kahiran Fakhinzadeh, a renowned Apiculture Scientist from the University of Helsinki, Finland, would be a resource person. International Bee Research Association (IBRA) is an affiliation of the University of Helsinki. Mr. Sulemana said participants would go on field trips to Abokobi in the Greater Accra Region and Akatsi in the Volta Region to study the apiaries there established by IBRA.
