Farmers undergoing to access MCA

Gomoa Mprumem (C/R), Nov. 9, GNA – Farmers in the two districts of Gomoa are undergoing training in agricultural production to enable them to access the Millennium Challenge Accounts (MCA). Madam Joyce Aidoo, Gomoa West District Chief Executive who announced this urged the farmers to take good advantage of the MCA to improve their financial base. Madam Aidoo, in a speech read by Mr. Fred Addae, District Coordinating Director at the 24th National Farmers Day Celebration at Gomoa Mprumem near Apam expressed gratitude to the agriculture extension agents for providing technical advice to the farmers and fishermen in the discharge of their duties, and appealed to the farmers to make good use of the advice given by the field officers. On the theme for the celebration; “Globalization: its effect on agriculture production in Ghana,” the DCE said since the world had become a global village, what happened in one country was bound to affect another and therefore Ghana could not be totally free from the effects of global food and economic crisis which had hit some parts of the world.

She, however pointed out that, due to the prudent economic policies of the government, the impact was not being felt much as was the case in some countries. Mr. Marcus Odame, Deputy Director of Agriculture who represented Mrs. Evelyn Opare, District Director who was celebrating the day in Gomoa East, said the district Directorate had put in place measures to ensure that negative effect of globalization on agriculture production was reduced or eliminated. Mr. James Appiah Boamah from Gomoa Nkoranza was adjudged the best farmer. In all, 20 farmers received prizes for being adjudged the best in their various fields. 09 Nov. 08
