Peki (V/R), Oct. 21, GNA – The New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the weekend launched its campaign in the South Dayi Constituency at a rally, where the Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency was introduced to the people.
Mr Johnson Avuletey, Volta Regional Organiser of the Party, challenged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to tell Ghanaians what they did to improve their standards of living when they gave them their mandate, instead of criticizing policies and programmes by the NPP government. “Stop making noise and tell the good people of Ghana what you did in the eight years that you ruled this country,” he said. Mr Avuletey said the NDC was just envious of the international fame and recognition the NPP government under President Kufuor had gained. He said Professor John Evans Atta Mills was the head of the Economic Management Team during the NDC regime that mismanaged the economy and had nothing to offer Ghanaians. Mr Avuletey appealed to Ghanaians not to make the mistake of voting the NDC to come back to power, because it would bring back the culture of silence, intimidation, disregard for rule of law and abuse of human rights.
Mr Bernard Duose, the Parliamentary Candidate for the Constituency said it was the good policies and programmes of the NPP government that moved him from the NDC to join the party. “The greatest mistake that I ever did in my life was when I mounted an NDC platform and introduced Dr Kwame Ampofo to the people of South-Dayi to vote for him,” adding that, he has woefully failed the people of the constituency.
He said he was not a “political harlot” as his detractors claimed, but the love he had for his constituency and the many appeals from the people, made him to join the winning party to help develop the area. Mr Duose who is a Business Development Consultant appealed to the people to vote massively for the NPP to reciprocate the kind gesture of the government by creating the South Dayi district. Mrs Woyram Boakye Danquah, District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area said the NPP government would continue to develop the country in freedom and would not discriminate in the sharing of the national cake. Mr Eric Akyea, South Dayi Constituency Vice-Chairman of the NDC in a solidarity message said the NPP and NDC were not enemies, but they only have different ideologies and appealed to supporters of both parties not to do anything that would derail the peace of the country.
Nana Kwabea IV, Ankobeahene of Akwamu Traditional Area said policies and programmes being implemented by the NPP government were human-centred and called on Ghanaians to retain the party in power to continue with its good works.
