Sixteen injured in accident on Accra-Winneba road

Winneba (C/R), Oct. 15, GNA – Sixteen persons including students, who narrowly escape death in a fatal accident on the Accra-Winneba road on Tuesday, have all been admitted at the Winneba Government Hospital with various degrees of injuries.

A Nissan Urvan bus with registration number GA 9012X upon which the passengers were travelling from Accra to Winneba somersaulted three times on the road when its two rear tyres got busted along the way. This happened between 0630 hours and 0700 hours on Tuesday at Gomoa Potsin junction.

At the hospital, the Ghana New Ghana News learnt that six of the injured were students of the University of Education, Winneba. Their names were given as Salina Ajandua, Stephen Aninimanye, Prure Bediakwa, Emmanuel Offori Ayiquay and Stephen Wiredu. The others are Magaret Bayonu, from Winneba, Vida Owusu, Abana Effirim and her one-and half year old baby, Gabriel Kwekuwapa all from Accra.

The rest are Esi Nyaneba, Perpetual Akwanoba, Awo Mansah, Letical Amoah, all from Winneba and Osumanu Samba, driver of the vehicle and his mate, whose name was only given as Red, both from Accra. Health authorities and the Winneba police told the GNA that most of the victims were in critical conditions that would require special attention. Meanwhile, the police said they were investigating the actual cause of the accident. According to the police, the accident was third in less than 30 days on the Accra Winneba road that had claimed one life but injured 40 people.
