NPP supporters attack Fantes, Ewes in Ahafo Ano

The Ahafo Ano North District Security Committee (DISEC) has expressed dismay at what it termed as the harrassment of members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) by New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters . According to a statement issued and signed by Mr Peter Anarfi Mensah, DISEC chairman, since the results for the constituency showed victory for the NPP in the area, some NPP supporters have taken it upon themselves to harass members of the other parties especially the NDC.

?Currently some people of minority tribes and religions comprising Fantis, Ewes and moslems have taken refuge at the DCE?s residence at Tepa for fear of their lives? the statement said.

The statement said immediately after the results were announced, NPP supporters attacked NDC sympathisers at Asuhyiae, a town in the Ahafo Ano North District.

It said Miss Phyllis Asante, District Organiser of the 31st December Women?s Movement was brutally assaulted and soldiers had to be brought in to save her. The statement said at Suponso, Christine Mansa, the leader of the Holy Cherobin and Seraphim Healing Church was allegedly driven from her home after being physically assaulted.

The statement expressed concern that the leadership of the NPP has refused to intervene to restrain its followers from such callous acts. ?The fear of the district authorities is that these unfortunate incidents may degenerate into a full scale clash between the NPP and the NDC supporters if not stopped? the statement noted.

It therefore called on the leadership of the NPP to come out to condemn the acts.
