Students do “kangaroo” dance to show appreciation to government

Sunyani, Oct. 3, GNA – Students and teachers of Twene Amanfo Senior High and Technical and Sunyani Senior High schools on Thursday did the ‘kangaroo’ dance on their campuses to express appreciation to the government for pouring resources into the education sector.

This was after Mr. Kwame Awuah-Twumasi, Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, had presented a bus each and about 1,800 mathematical to each of the two schools at their campuses in Sunyani. He deplored the practice by some students to sneak into town during class hours and engage in activities that could ruin their future and expressed regret at the alarming rate of acts of indiscipline in the Ghanaian society.

Mr. Joseph Awuah, Headmaster of Sunyani Senior High School and Mrs. Georgina Boakye, Headmistress of Twene Amanfo Senior High School complained about inadequate accommodation for both students and staff of their schools.

Mrs. Boakye said lack of accommodation for the students had affected enrolment and appealed to the government to help resolve the problem.

She said the school with a total number of 1000 students was expecting more than 500 new students of the 2008/2009 academic year.
