Child of Jesus Society gives to KATH

Kumasi, Sept. 30, GNA – Members of the Saint Peter’s Minor Basilica branch of the Child of Jesus Society in Kumasi has presented 10,000 Ghana cedis as seed money towards the establishment of a cancer endowment fund at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi. The endowment fund is aimed at mobilizing financial resources to assist needy cancer patients at the Oncology Department of the hospital. Mrs Juliana Mensah Bonsu, President of the Society who made the presentation, said the money was the contribution of members of the Society towards the endowment fund. She said members of the Society, most of who are women, found it necessary to contribute to the fund to ensure that women who are vulnerable to cancer have easy access to medication. Dr Anthony Nsiah Asare, Chief Executive Officer of KATH who received the money, thanked members of the Society for the gesture. He appealed to corporate bodies and individuals to support the fund to enable cancer patients receive affordable medication. Dr Baffour Awuah, Head of Oncology Department of KATH, stressed the need for frequent medical examination to ensure early detection of cancer and treatment.
