Churches in B/A to pray for incident-free elections

Nkoranza (BA), Sept. 16, GNA – Members of the Nkoranza Local Council of Churches in the Brong-Ahafo Region is organizing a special week long prayers for God’s blessings over the nation to ensure an incident free elections.

Reverend Emmanuel Osei, Minister In-Charge of the Nkoranza District Presbyterian Church and also the Chairman of the Council told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Nkoranza that, the programme was in fulfilment of their roles and responsibilities as stakeholders of the nation’s development.

Rev. Osei said the programme, which started on Monday would end on Friday 19th September, during which members would meet at particular places to pray.

The theme of the exercise is: “The Light Shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it”.

The Chairman of the Local Council of Churches announced that special topics have been selected for discussion alongside the prayers and include topics such as “Ghana and the results of the Election 2008”, “Elections and its effect on the economy”, “Election 2008 results and the state of Nkoranzaman”, “Witnessing Christianity and Marriage and the roles and responsibilities of couples as parents”.

Rev. Osei stressed the need for political leaders to educate their supporters to comport themselves during the elections in December to ensure free, fair, peaceful and successful.

“We all belong to one state and with a common destiny and should not allow party politics to divide us, as we would not feel proud and happy in any other country apart from Ghana our beloved and blessed home”.

He appealed to the youth of the various political parties to desist from the politics of insults, provocative statements and personal attacks as well as confrontations, which trigger confusions in the communities.

Rev. Osei called on his colleague religious leaders to devote special prayer sessions in their churches “so that God would shower his blessings upon the state for peace and tranquility to prevail at all places during and after the general elections”. 16 Sept. 08
