Amasaman gets development chief

Amasaman (G/A), Sept. 9, GNA – Mr Francis Mills, a 36 year-old Managing Director of Patriotic Shipping Company at Tema, was at the weekend installed Noyaa-Mantse (Development-Chief) of Amasaman in the Ga West District of Greater Accra Region. His stool name is Nii Akora I. In his maiden address, Nii Akora I, called on the people of Amasaman to unite to support him tackled developmental needs of the community such as building of schools, clinics and provision of potable water. He said he would build a tourism facility in the area to generate income to support projects as well as set-up an educational trust fund to give scholarships to the poor but brilliant and the needy persons. Nii Amasa Oseiku, Chief of Amasaman, who out-doored Nii Akora, said by providing infrastructure such as tourism facility job opportunities were created as well to the people.

He said it would also provide an alternative livelihood for the youth who currently engaged in stone and sand winning in the area. Nii Amasa Oseiku advised the youth to shun all forms of social vices and rather channelled their energies into supporting the “Noyaa-Mantse” to bring development and job opportunities in Amasaman. Nii Ayibontey II, Gbese Mantse, who was the guest of honour at the function, advised chiefs in the area to put an end to chieftaincy disputes and rather come together to initiate projects that would benefit the people. He said it was about time chiefs put a stop to spending huge sums of monies on litigations in the courts to the detriment of the people saying “our people are yearning for schools, clinics, places of convenience and recreational centres”. He also appealed to the people to engage in tree-planting exercises in order to protect their water bodies. 9 Sept. 08
