President happy with conduct of polls

President Rawlings has expressed satisfaction at the conduct of the December 7 polls and congratulated all Ghanaians for chalking another success in the democratic process. Speaking on Vibe FM, an Accra based radio station, the President once again assured the nation of his readiness to leave office and hand over to the democratically elected successor.

He however hopes that whoever emerges, as the winner would be realistic enough not to dismantle everything his government has done. He hopes that a good number of the programs would be maintained. “They are at liberty to make whatever changes they want and no one would be able to stop them because they came to power through the will of the people”, the President said soberly.

He prayed however that a clear distinction is made between what programs need to be changed and which need to be maintained, adding that there are some very concrete programs already laid down for further development of the country.

Asked for his reaction on assertion in certain quarters that he has divided the nation, President Rawlings said, “that is just the perception of some people”. “I am leaving office through peaceful electoral process, what they are saying is just for a political purpose”, the President added.

He took listeners down memory lane and revisited some of the things that took place during the famous June 4 uprising saying “I don’t wanna see that happen again”.
