Takoradi, Sept. 1, GNA – Thousands of enthusiastic supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the weekend delayed a function of the Takoradi Polytechnic Chapter of the party for four hours as they thronged the streets of the twin city to welcome the party’s delegation attending the function.
The supporters met the NDC entourage led by Mr John Dramani Mahama, running mate of the NDC presidential candidate, at Kwesimintim then moved through Effiakuma and Market Circle before squeezing themselves into the polytechnic’s auditorium amidst dancing and singing of party songs.
The function organized by the Tertiary Education Institutional Network of the National democratic Congress (TEIN-NDC) was under the theme: “The return of the NDC for a better Ghana”.
Addressing the programme, Mr Mahama said he was overwhelmed at the way his entourage was received and thanked the supporters.
“I was only here to attend the TEIN programme and then to have been met by this huge crowd which indicates that the party is really on its way to winning the December elections.”
He said the party was winning elections devoid of confusion and violence and appealed to the party faithful to come out in their numbers to vote and return power to the NDC on that day.
Mr Elvis Afriyie, Deputy General Secretary, told the cheering crowd that “when an elephant metamorphoses into a kangaroo you can only expect destruction”.
He said research had established that kangaroos could only be found in Australia and had a seven-year life span. He also said it lost all its teeth before its death adding, “a
collection of kangaroos is a mob of kangaroos”. Mr Afriyie said in as much as the NDC supporters should seek peace and live as law-abiding citizens, they should be more vigilant against people who would infiltrate their ranks.
