Uninsured clients benefit from health insurance scheme

Lawra, Aug. 25, GNA – Naa Anacletus Kuuyelleh, Board Chairman of the Lawra District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme, has expressed worry about the attitude of some clients, who thronged hospitals and other health facilities to collect drugs for uninsured relatives and friends. He said some clients also have the habit of carrying their entire family to the hospitals for medical attention when a member falls sick. Naa Kuuyelleh, who raised the concern at the fourth annual general meeting of the Lawra District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme at Lawra on Saturday, said some members of the Scheme visited the hospitals not because there were sick but rather to get drugs for their relatives. He appealed to the community representatives to educate the people against such behaviour and said the Scheme needed to be protected for it to be sustained.

Naa Kuuyelleh blamed the lack of interest by some people to register with the Scheme on the unprofessional attitude of some members of staff of the Scheme, delay in the release of identity cards and poor record keeping.

“These lapses must be addressed appropriately to encourage people to patronise the Scheme”, he said.

He warned that members of staff, who would continue to indulge in such behaviour, would face the full rigorous of the law. Naa Kuuyelleh called for vigorous public education campaign to sensitise people to register with the Scheme.
