Rapid Deployment Force for Eastern Region inaugurated

Koforidua, Aug 22, GNA – a Rapid Deployment Force (RDP) of the Ghana Police to control riots and demonstrations prior to the December election in the Eastern Region was inaugurated on Friday in Koforidua Members of the RDP were drawn from stations, divisions and the Cobra Unit of the Eastern Regional Command as a stand-bye force to be mobilized in times of rioting or demonstration. The Eastern Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police George Anko-Bil, said the RDP was specially trained to combat violent rioters in a humane manner.

He said the Police Administration was worried about causalities that characterized police confrontation with the public and had formed “the RDP which will give a more human face in controlling riot.”
