FDB bans “garsoak” food in Ashanti Region

Kumasi, Aug. 21, GNA – The Food and Drugs Board (FDB), has ordered the Garfood Enterprise, manufacturers of garisoaking (garsoak), a food product, to stop its production and distribution within the Ashanti Region.

The Board has also directed the Enterprise to immediately withdraw the product from the market and also stop its unapproved advertisement in the electronic media.

This was contained in a statement signed by Mr Joseph Bennie, Zonal Officer of the FDB and issued in Kumasi on Thursday. It said the production premises of the product at Anomangye, a suburb of Kumasi, was unhygienic and unsuitable as regards to quality and safety for human consumption.

It said the FDB has neither certified the premises nor registered the product and has, therefore, advised the consuming public to desist from patronizing the garsoak. The release assured the public that the Board was taking necessary steps within its statutory mandate to guarantee public safety in drugs and food consumption in the country.
