Court fines driver for ignoring stop order

Assin Foso (C/R), Aug. 13, GNA – Assin Foso District Magistrates’ Court presided over by Mr Joseph Blay on Wednesday fined Kwame Frimpong a driver Assin Foso in the Central Region for GH¢ 300 for failing to obey a police stop signal. He pleaded guilty with explanation but his plea was not taken and he will go to prison for three months in default.

Police Inspector prosecuting told the court that on July 9. 2008, Frimpong was driving Benz Bus 207 and on reaching Assin Juaso forest area, he was signalled by the police to stop but he refused. The prosecution said the police alerted their colleagues at the next barrier through telephone call and he was arrested and charged with the offence.

In his explanation, the convict said when he got to the police patrol unit, they had stopped one vehicle and were attending to that driver and that force him not to stop. The Magistrate, in passing sentence said he could not accept the convict’s explanation which was not convincing.
