Zongo NDC expresses concern about harassment

Accra, Aug 10, GNA – The National Council of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Zongo Caucus has said it is dismayed by reports from the Ashanti Region and other parts of the country that people from the north, especially those living in the Zongos, are being harassed and sometimes denied registration.

A statement signed by Alhaji Baba Sherif, the Deputy National Coordinator, appealed to the Electoral Commission as well as the security agencies to ensure that no Ghanaian is discriminated against in the limited registration exercise.

“We wish to reiterate that a Ghanaian is not defined by his or her name, dress or tribal affiliation but by law as enshrined in the constitution. We urge all our brothers and sisters in the north and in the Zongos to stand firm and insist on their right to register,” it said.
