CPP shocked about supreme court ruling

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has expressed dismay about the supreme court’s decision to allow any person with thumbprint identity cards to vote.

Dr Abubakar Al-Hassan, reacting to the Court’s ruling on the issue on Tuesday however said in the interest of peace and stability of the nation and respect for the rule of law, the party has accepted the judgement and called on other political parties to do likewise.

He said anything contrary would throw the country into chaos and play into the hands of those who do not want the democratic process to thrive in the country.

“Developments in neighbouring countries should be an eye-opener to Ghanaians that violence and confrontation would not help anybody, Dr Al-Hassan said.

He therefore called on the party’s agents and supporters not to engage in any activities that would infringe on the Court’s ruling.

” This does not mean that the party will not be vigilant at the polls. Our polling agents will ensure that only eligible voters cast their votes and the electoral rules applied to the latter”.

Dr. Al-Hassan cautioned the security personnel who would be deployed to the polling stations to be circumspect and tactful in the enforcement of the judgement and not to engage in any action that would portray them as being bias.
