Community, Catholic Church discuss training college project for Gomoa Tarkwa

Gomoa Tarkwa (C/R), Aug. 4, GNA – Negotiations are in progress between the Catholic Church and community leaders for the establishment of a teacher training college at Gomoa Tarkwa in the Central Region, the chief of the town said at the weekend. Addressing a fund-raising durbar to climax the annual ahobakese festival at Gomoa Tarkwa, Nana Egyir Akumanyi V, tracks of land had been released for the project to be undertaken by the Church.

Ahoba festival is celebrated by some Fante communities in appreciation of a sacrifice made by one Ahor from Gomoa Maim, who offered his life to save the people from a plague which attacked and killed many of them when they migrated from Techiman to their present settlement. Nana Akumanyi appealed to government and donor agencies to support the project. Mr. Joe Donkoh, Gomoa West Chairman of the New Patriotic Party appealed to the people to take the current voter registration exercise seriously and ensure its success.
