Politics mustn’t divide or create enmity among us – Mike Hammah

Winneba (C/R), Aug. 4, GNA – Mr Mike Allen Hammah, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Effutu constituency, has appealed to Ghanaians not to allow politics to divide and create enmity among them. He said: “Irrespective of our political affiliations we are one people with common destiny and not enemies”. Mr Hammah made the appeal when he addressed members of the Winneba Students Union and some youths of Winneba town after a one-half hour peace walk to sensitize people on the need to ensure peaceful elections in December 2008.

The walk that started from the North Campus of the University of Education, Winneba, ended at the main Winneba-Accra lorry station. Mr Hammah said it important that Ghanaians lived in unity and ensured that nothing was done to derail the democratic foundation that had been laid by previous governments. He said the future of the nation laid on our ability to consciously sustain the democratic culture that has been built. “Democracy is very expensive and everything must be done to sustain it in order to maintain peace and stability in the country. Without peace no development can take place,” he added.

Mr Hammah said the government of Professor John Evans Atta Mills, NDC’s presidential candidate would protect and deepen the democracy culture that had been built. He appealed to the Electoral Commission to ensure free and fair elections to help sustain the peace and stability of the country. Mr Hammah also appealed to supporters of political parties to avoid cheating and tolerate each others views with respect and maturity.
