CEPS poised to meet challenges

Kpetoe (V/R), Aug. 3, GNA- Mr Emmanul Doku, Commissioner of the Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS), said the Service was poised to meet challenges in customs administration to optimize performance to create a favourable environment for business and investment in the country. He said CEPS was reviewing its operational systems, realigning its procedures and introducing new concepts to ensure a more efficient and transparent tax system to respond to these challenges.

Mr Doku was speaking at the passing-out parade of some 126 recruits at the CEPS Academy at Kpetoe in the Volta Region at the weekend. The recruits had undergone a six-month intensive basic paramilitary and customs training. They were taken through vigorous military drills, exercises, weapon handling, as well as the rudiments of customs operations, theories, regimes, laws, finance, ethics, code of conduct and the mission and vision of the Service.

Mr Doku tasked the new recruits to make use of skills and knowledge acquired during the training to enable them to discharge their duties professional as Customs officers. He urged them to abide by the Service’s code of conduct and to be committed to CEPS, which aims at providing efficient, fair, transparent and timely services to clients. Mr Doku advised the recruits to eschew indiscipline and misconduct and cautioned them that they could be dismissed for omissions and commissions. Awards were given to deserving recruits and Solomom Padi Kodjoe was adjudged the best all round recruit.
