Accra, July 11, GNA – Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK and Ireland, Mr. Annan Cato on Thursday, July 10, this year initialled a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Ghana Police Service and the British Police at the offices of the New Scotland Yard in London. The MOU seeks to promote a collaboration between the two security agencies to combat organised crime.
A statement to the GNA said before the signing ceremony, Mr Cato said; “No country was an island of its own; therefore co-operations of this sort was of permanent interest to both Ghana and the UK”. He said Ghana has had its share of organised crime in a sub-region bedevilled by instability and therefore will welcome any assistance from friendly nations to help combat it. He said he was also hopeful Ghana would learn useful lessons from the way the British Police were combating knife crimes. He asked for the provision of “walkie talkies” for the Ghana Police.
Mr. John Yates QPM, an Assistant Commissioner of Police signed on behalf of the British Police. The MOU is subject to review in 12 months.
