An Accra Circuit Tribunal on Tuesday sentenced Samuel Eshun, an apprentice plumber to three years imprisonment with hard labour for stealing jewellery worth over 71 million cedis.
Eshun pleaded not guilty to the charges of unlawful entry and stealing. Police Superintendent Elizabeth Alandu who prosecuted, told the tribunal chaired by Mr. Mohammed Nabon that the complainant, Mr. Wahid Faher is the proprietor of Muget Jewellery shop at Osu in the same area where Eshun also lives.
She said on March 20, Mr. Faher locked his shop after close of work but discovered the next day that it had broken into and assorted Jewellery valued over 71 million cedis stolen.
Superintendent Alandu said Mr. Faher, reported the theft to the police who after investigations arrested Eshun. Police found some of the stolen jewellery valued at about 43.3 million cedis in his room.
She said Eshun had accompanied his master on March 17 to repair a washing basin in the toilet of the shop and took advantage to break in.
