Church donates to orphanage

Agona Akwakwaa (C/R), July 7, GNA – The Children’s Department of the Holy Ghost Revival Assemblies of God Church at South Odorkor in Accra on Monday presented assorted items and cash totalling GH¢500 to the Nyamekye Orphanage at Agona Akwakwaa in the Central Region. The donation formed part of activities marking the children’s day celebration of the Church.

The Rev. Gaylord Aidoo-Dadzie, Senior Pastor of the Church, said the Church was committed to meeting both the spiritual and physical needs of people, especially the poor and vulnerable. Quoting James 1:27, he said, the Bible commissioned every Christian to show love, compassion and support for the fatherless, the widow and the underprivileged.

Rev. Aidoo-Dadzie said, due to trying conditions in the orphanage the church would, as a matter of urgency, adopt and visit them quarterly to fellowship, worship and also assist them with material things. He urged the caregivers to train the children in the fear of God and make judicious use of the items to help in the holistic development of the children.

Ms. Charity Mensah, Mother and Founder of the Orphanage, said the love and sympathy for the less privileged in society drove her into establishing the home.

She said the orphanage started about 12 years ago in her single room where a lot of the children were kept until friends from Belgium and Norway provided accommodation to house 60 children between 1-17 years about four years ago. Ms Mensah said the home needed a school, sanitary facilities, medics and foodstuffs to cater for the children.
