Mac Manu elected VEEP of IDU

Accra, July 3, GNA – Mr. Peter Mac Manu, National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party has been elected as the Vice Chairman of the International Democrat Union (IDU).

He was elected at the Party Leaders’ Meeting held in Paris and hosted by the ruling party in France, Union pour un Mouvement Populaire (UMP).

A statement signed by Mr. Charles Owiredu, Director of International Affairs of the NPP, said the meeting, under the theme, “The centre-right agenda for the 21st century” was presided over by the chairman of IDU, Mr John Howard, immediate past Prime Minister of Australia with Mr Nicholas Sarkozy of France being the guest of honour. The statement said Mr Mac Manu received a lot of admiration and commendation for successes in his stewardship of the NPP and Democrat Union of Africa (DUA).

It said he thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in him and assured the party leaders that he would use his position to project the ideals of the Union.

The IDU formed in 1983 is a working association of conservatives, Christian Democrats and like minded political parties of the centre and centre right in the world.

It provides a forum for political parties holding similar beliefs to come together and exchange views on matters of policy, learn from each other, act together and with one strong voice to promote democracy around the globe.

Its founding members include former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, former US President George Bush Snr, former French President Jacques Chirac and former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl.
