MCE speaks on government programmes

Akim Oda (ER), June 25, GNA – Mr. Frank Kwame Bosomtwi, Birim Central Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has stated that the National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) registered a total of 9,043 people from January this year up to date. Mr. Bosomtwi, who was briefing the GNA on some government programmes in the municipality at Akim Oda on Wednesday said the figure brings the total membership of 108,665, representing 60.6 per cent out of the target of 70 per cent of the population. “It is hoped that more would be roped into the scheme to make it sustainable,” he said. The MCE pointed out that the School Feeding Programme (SFP) in the Birim Municipality had been piloted in five community schools since its inception. He said reports so far received indicated that the programme had increased enrolment in the pilot schools. Mr. Bosomtwi listed the beneficiary basic schools as Gssam Local Authority Primary, Akenkansu Methodist and Catholic Primary, Enyinem Kotoku Local Authority Primary and Peini Local Authority Primary. Speaking on National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP), the MCE stressed that under the programme, seven models had been implemented, adding that, it had offered employment to 598 youths in the municipality. He gave the breakdown of the models as health extension workers, community protection unit, teaching protection unit, sanitation guards, Zoomlion and farmers and plantation development programme.
