Two NPP Women MPs win Primaries

Accra, June 22, GNA-Two women Members of Parliament (MPs) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Greater-Accra Region, on Sunday retained their candidatures, when they won the party’s primaries in their respective constituencies.

Dr Gladys Norley Ashitey, Deputy Minister of Health won the Ledzokuku primary, while Mrs Elizabeth Sackey, carried the day in the Okai Koi North Constituency primary.

Dr Ashitey polled 79 out of 98 votes cast, to beat her two other contestants, Mr Stephen Quaye, and Mr Benjamin Sowah, who polled 17 and two votes respectively. She thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in her, and pledged to retain the seat for the NPP in the upcoming general elections.

Dr Ashitey urged the constituents to bury their differences and move forward as a united force, to ensure resounding victory in the December polls.

In the Okai Koi North Constituency primary, which was keenly contested by five other candidates, Mrs Sackey polled 43 votes to beat her close rival, Mr Kayisi Tettey, former First Vice Chairman, who had 38 votes.

Mr John Owusu Afriyie, former Constituency Chairman placed third with 31 votes, while Mr Boye Laryea, former Regional Financial Secretary, Mr Joseph Darko Menash, former MP, and Mr Alex Armah, followed in that order with 11, one, and zero votes respectively. Mrs Sackey, also thanked the delegates for retaining her as the party’s parliamentary candidate, and assured the constituents of capturing the seat for NPP.
