Kumasi, June 17, GNA – The multi-million-cedi National Accident and Emergency Centre under construction at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi would be ready in August this year. Dr Anthony Nsiah-Asare, Chief Executive of KATH who announced this said the project was 90 per cent complete. He was briefing newsmen after conducting a four-member Parliamentary Select Committee on Health round on-going projects at the hospital on Tuesday.
Other projects inspected were, a new 208-capacity Pathology Department and refurbishment of the Out-Patient Department. Members of the committee were, Mr Godfred Otchere, Member of Parliament for Ayensuano, Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, Member of Parliament for Asawase, Mr Mahama Ayariga, Member of Parliament for Bawku Central and Madam Elizabeth Agyeman, Member of Parliament for Oforikrom.
Mr John Miladinic, Project Manager of Gertech Company, executing the projects said the centre was unique because it had a 36 ton helicopter park on the roof of the building that had been well executed. He said people from developed countries including Israel who had inspected the project confirmed its uniqueness. At the Pathology Department, Mr Miladinic said the mortuary was almost complete and was left with some electrical installations and would be handed over in July this year. At the Maternal and Child block, the AESL Consultant said about 2,600,000 Ghana cedis had so far been spent on the six storey building being financed by Government and about an additional 16 million Ghana cedis would be needed to complete the project. Dr Nsiah-Asare appealed for additional funds from Government’s budgetary allocation and other development agencies to enable the hospital management complete the projects to reduce child and maternal morbidity and mortality.
Mr Otchere who led the team, said the tour was to update their knowledge and development at the hospital.
